We africans have this idea that our hair can't possible grow that long like the Asian/Caucasian type of hair, let me be the one to tell you that, that idea is very wrong.
Today the average african lady has her hair just above or on her shoulder. But do you know there are many Africans with much longer hairs and you can be one of them?.
On average the hair grows about 0.5inches a month, that is 6inches in a whole year. Sure genetics play a huge role in growing the hair, but the way you care for you hair also has a major role here.
Have you had your hair for a long time and it feels like your hair has stopped growing? Like your are stuck? Let me give you a few tips to get out of this phase of hair growth you are in
Hair tips
1. Becareful of the type of hair product you use. In an upcoming post i will tell you how to pick the right product (so you might wanna subscribe not to miss it). The wrong products can leave our alredy needs-alot-of-moisture hair dry and brittle causing breakage, dandruff and damaged looking hair. Use less product and they must be good. Not all those products in the market are meant for the african hair type.
2. Shampoo regularly. Now when I say shampoo regularly, i mean once or twice a weak, no more as the african hair is already dry enough, washing it alot will strip off the little moisture it has, leaving your hair dryer and more prone to breakage and split ends. Use a moisturizing shampoo.
3. Condition right after each wash, this restores most of the oils stripped off from the hair.
4. Deep condition at least once a week. An african hair needs the extra conditioning, for strength.
5. Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize! Moisturize your hair everyday, and alot. In the morning, right after the shower and before going to bed. Moisturizing does wonders to the hair.
6. BE on a good diet that provide the hair with the right proteins or consult your doctor if you want to take supplements.
7. Keep your hair in a protective style. It is said, combing your hair in one direction and keeping it in ponytails for an extended period of time promotes hair loss in that area. Do less manipulation to your hair by keeping it in protective style like a weave, don't think you cannot take care of your hair when on a weave, click here to see how to care for the hair under your weave to promote hair growth and to reduce breakage when you take it off.
8. Say no to constant straightening, perming and application of chemicals to the hair.
9. No stress, meditate or exercise or do what makes you feel good, stress is not good for the hair.
10. Trim the ends of the hair. Don't think trimming the hair has anything to do with faster hair growth, it doesnt. What a trim does is to remove the dead ends of the hair that can spread damage to the hair, removing these layers of dead cells with reduce hair loss.
